How to keep your profile and your life safe and secure on social media
Before putting yourself out there on social media, check out this to-do list and see if your profile is safe and secure.
Is your profile set on “private”?
If not, get help from an adult on how to do this.
Do you know everyone on your friend list?
Remove the ones you don’t.
Do you have pictures posted that others may use to hurt, abuse, disrespect, or take advantage of you?
Take it down.
Is your real birth date visible on your profile?
Ask an adult to set it or at least your birth year private for you.
Is your real address visible on your profile?
Remove it.
Has someone sent you rude or hurtful messages?
Show them to a trusted adult like your parents, older siblings, or teachers. Block them after.
Are you a member of a group or follow a page that spreads fake news, inappropriate pictures and videos, rude and hurtful words, or talk about child-inappropriate topics?
Report and leave the group or unfollow the page.
Are you having a hard time doing all of this?
Ask an adult for help.
